Europe > Netherlands

A flat landscape, windmills, canals and tulips – these are things that normally spring to mind when anyone mentions Holland. It is a country that has, in part, been reclaimed from the North Sea; an artificially created land of which approximately half lies at or below sea level.
In spring time, the countryside is awash with vibrant colour as the bulb-fields bloom. As a country it has the highest population density in Europe. Its people are friendly and know how to relax and party hard, especially in the big cities. English is widely spoken (especially in the west of the country) and it has a public transport system to die for.
Holland is an ideal destination for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits such as walking and cycling. But it also has a wealth of culture in its architecture and art with numerous museums and galleries displaying the stunning works of artists such as Rembrandt, Frans Hals and Jan Vermeer.
When you think of Holland, normally Amsterdam comes to mind. It is hardly surprising as the mere mention of the name conjures romantic images of the capital of culture, coffee shops and canals. Of course, to others it immediately brings to mind the red light district and a liberal attitude towards drugs. But whichever camp you are in, one thing is certain – it is a stunning city with much to offer its visitors
But Holland doesn’t just stop in Amsterdam there are also other wonderful cities to explore such as Rotterdam, The Hague, Maastricht, Haarlem, Leiden and DelftMore info
